Dr. Margaret Bennett (Skye/Edinburgh)
—Noted folklorist and scholar as well as an exceptional Gaelic and Scots singer and storyteller. An Honorary Research Fellow at University of Glasgow, Dr. Bennett will be joining us as both a performer and a presenter. (Also listed under music.)
 
Sheena Blackhall (Aberdeen)
—A Creative Writing Fellow at the University of Aberdeen's Elphinstone Institute, Sheena is a prominent Doric poet, storyteller, and singer, and is active in workshops and school programs. Her Scots language website, The Kist, does a wonderful job of documenting and encouraging the writing and speaking of Doric - the distinctive version of Scots spoken in northeast Scotland. www.abdn.ac.uk/elphinstone/kist
 
Lexie and Ross Dunn (Glasgow)
—Children's game experts Lexie and Ross Dunn from Big Top in Glasgow will teach children of all ages how to play traditional Scottish street and playground games, teach Scottish rhymes, and explain what to do with such exotic equipment as girts-and-clicks. Come prepared to play!

Bill Innes (Glasgow)
—A passionate advocate of Gaelic poetry, language, and culture, Innes's presentations and translations have been internationally acclaimed. His book, Chì Mi, won a National Mod literature prize. A native of the Outer Hebrides, Innes will introduce American audiences to the beauty and strength of the traditions surrounding Gaelic poetry and Gaelic as it is spoken in the Western Isles.
 
Billy Kay (Ayrshire/Scots)
—Noted writer, documentary producer, broadcaster, and authority on Scots and Scottish culture. His accomplishments include the BBC/Odyssey series; the book Scots: The Mither Tongue; and numerous plays, short stories, poems, dramatizations, and awards. www.sol.co.uk/b/billykay/billykay.htm
 
Leabhar Mor na Gaidhlig / Big Book of Gaelic
—To mark the launch of this innovative arts project that marries Gaelic poetry from Ireland and answer to the Book of Kells, the Smithsonian is working closely with Proiseact Nan Ealan/The Gaelic Arts Agency in Stornoway, Lewis, to produce panels containing information about the Project and reproductions of come of the remarkable art work produced for the project.
